CERT Computer Forensics Team Recognized by Congressmen
Murtha, Doyle, and Altmire The recent U.S. Department of Justice indictment of
11 individuals responsible for the largest identity theft case in
history was possible in part to the efforts of the Carnegie Mellon
Software Engineering Institute (SEI) CERT Program. U.S. House of
Representatives John Murtha, Mike Doyle, and Jason Altmire recognized
the program's efforts on September 4, 2008,
during a visit to the university in which
the SEI, Carnegie Mellon CyLab, and School of Computer Science
programs showcased some of the university's latest research and

process improvement, the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is
developing A Field Guide for Improving Processes in Small
Settings, with how-to guidance, examples, templates, checklists,
and other information. The SEI released a prototype of the field
guide at the SEPG North America 2008 conference on March 20,
2008. This prototype version of the field guide represents the
work completed in phase one of the Improving Processes in Small
Settings (IPSS) Project. It was written in collaboration with

SEI Begins Educational Collaboration with Leading Indian University The SEI has begun a new collaboration in
postgraduate, professional education with the Birla Institute of
Technology and Science with its main campus in Pilani,
Rajasthan, India (BITS Pilani). On December 17, 2007,
representatives from the SEI and BITS Pilani signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in education and research
activities. The first offering under this MOU is in postgraduate

Predictable Engineering Course Offered The course Model-Based Engineering with SAE AADL
offers computer system engineering training that provides the
skills to enable precise system specification and apply
computerized, quantitative examination in multiple analysis
domains. Participants use tools that permit these analyses to be
applied to a single architecture specification, integrating the
software/system engineering roles typical within development

Mexican TSP Collaboration Enters Second Phase A delegation composed of representatives of
Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Tec

Engineering Institute recently to report on progress in the
Mexican TSP Initiative and to sign an agreement to move toward

Secret Service, CSO Magazine, and Microsoft CSO magazine released results of the 2007
E-Crime Watch Survey. This year's study revealed that while
security events and electronic crimes were steady against last
year's findings, there are real concerns that security
executives may be becoming over confident. |
SEI Updates Model Checking Tool That Analyzes Designs
for Safety and Security Version 2.0 of Component Formal Reasoning
Technology (ComFoRT) reasoning framework is now available for
download. ComFoRT uses software model checking technology to
determine whether designs satisfy a collection of user-specified
rules for safety and security correctness. |
